National double for Boston

Boston Squash Racketball Club are celebrating two national titles.

The men’s over 35s team scooped the National Club Championships Plate title while the over 45s won their version of the same competition.

The over 35s’ victory was a strange situation as opponents Biggleswade were unwilling to travel to Sheffield for the final and conceded the match, citing injuries and illness.

This left the team of Mark Hildred, captain Ady Proctor, David Stones, Graham Wallis and Jake Fountain to collect the trophy, unfortunately without breaking sweat.

In the over 45s event, Boston beat Luton and Dunstable on the Sunday.

Stuart Dunlop got the Boston team off to a fine start with a comprehensive 3–0 win against the Luton number three seed.

Playing at number one string, Mark Hildred then clinched the title with a relatively straight forward win - 9–0, 9-7, 9–4.

Boston number two David Stones rounded off the victory and made it a clean sweep with a straight sets victory.

This was the fourth year in succession Boston were represented in the National Club Championship finals.

In 2010 and 2012 the over 45s and over 35s team reached the finals of the main event of their respective competitions.

In 2011 the mens over 45s team won the plate competition.
