Celebrating Women's Squash Week
Next week (21st-27th September) is Women's Squash Week. The week is a celebration of squash and aims to raise the profile of the game amongst women and girls.
At Boston Squash and Racketball Club we have a thriving and growing women's squash scene. We host sessions for complete beginners right through to tournaments for some of the world's best female athletes. Every year, our prestigious Boston Open brings some of the world's best female athletes to our courts, and last year we were proud to be one of the first PSA Satellite events to equalise prize money for the men's and women's events. Last year seven of the world's top 50 players played on our courts and the tournament was eventually won by British #1 and world #5 Sarah-Jane Perry.
However, even more important at our club is the grassroots game. Female only coaching sessions are held for all ages and abilities every Tuesday evening, from 6-7pm, with no need to book (though groups will be split on the day as required in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines). These sessions are led by Pete Andrews, and complete beginners are always made to feel very welcome, with no membership requirement for your first few sessions. You can find out more about squash and our club here.
Our extremely popular junior coaching sessions are open to both girls and boys aged 8-16, and run on Saturday mornings. These sessions are led by Jacky Parsons and Pete Andrews. Complete beginners are again very welcome, though booking is required for these sessions: please e-mail bostonsquashandracketball@gmail.com or call 01205 839475 (staff available Mondays-Tuesdays and Thursdays-Saturdays, 10am-7pm).
All these sessions are open to non-members on a taster basis (and junior sessions never require membership), so if you know a friend or family member who you think might like to try the game, why not let them know? If you would like any more information - or would like to try the game but the times above are not convenient - please contact us using the details above and we will be able to assist you!
PS: we are e-mailing these updates to all members for whom we hold e-mail addresses. If you wish to receive these updates via e-mail, please sign up on the 'Newsletter' page.
